Our two day woodturning course is designed to cover many aspects of turning including tool selection, sharpening, equipment, skills and safety. This course is suitable for both people with no turning experience as well as those that are looking to regain confidence & brush up on skills after spending time away from the lathe. The extra time on the two day course allows for students to learn tool sharpening techniques and complete a number of projects which may include a garden dibber, candlestick, bowl & pen. Projects may vary from course to course due to time constraints. 

Techniques demonstrated include turning between centres, beads & coves and the use of screw chucks & 4 jaw self-centring chucks.

A maximum of 6 participants are taken on each course ensuring you receive adequate attention for the class duration.

Held above our store in Naas, W91XH68, our recently redeveloped classroom will provide you with a bright & spacious environment to work in. You will have use of all our classroom equipment, lathe & turning tools. Timber required will also be provided as will an apron & safety wear. It is important to wear comfortable & closed toe footwear – no flipflops or sandals are permitted. 

A light meal & refreshments are included in your fee. Please advise of any dietary requirements at the time of booking.

Your instructor for the course is Seamus Cassidy.

Seamus, a native of County Meath was born in 1961 and brought up on a farm. After completing his Leaving Certificate in 1978 in CBS Kells he went on to study Construction Studies in the Regional Technical College, Dundalk. After qualifying he moved to Dublin to work for a number of architectural firms. While working in Dublin he took up woodwork as a hobby. A passion soon developed for working with wood and a real talent was apparent. His experience in design and drawing has been invaluable in enabling him to produce unique and creative pieces that have won him many awards and high profile commissions. Seamus has demonstrated at The Carpentry Store on many previous occasions and he brings professionalism in everything he does.

Cancellation Policy:

Fees are payable in full at the time of booking. In an event that you need to cancel your course a full refund will be offered up to 14 days in advance of the course start date or subject to availability you will be offered a transfer to an alternative course date.

Cancellations within the 14days of the course start date will result in a forfeit of the fee and no transfer option will be offered unless your position can be filled by another student up to 7days prior to the course start date.

In the event that the course is cancelled by The Carpentry Store your fee will be refunded in full or an alternative course date can be provided. The Carpentry Store will not be liable for any other costs incurred or lost through the cancellation of the course.
