Our honing guides are designed similarly to the classic Eclipse Honing Guide. Consistency is the key in sharpening, and using a honing guide will give you the exact bevel angle every time you sharpen a blade.
The honing guide has two clamping positions. The upper clamping position accommodates blades up to 78mm (3-1/8") wide. The lower "V" clamping position holds bevel edge chisels or thinner blades from 3mm (1/8") to 48mm (1-7⁄8") wide.
The bevel angle on this guide depends on the blade's projection in front of the guide. Plane irons in the upper clamping position: 50mm (2") gives a 25° bevel and 38mm (1-1/2") gives a 30° bevel.
Chisels or blades placed between the lower "V" clamping position: 40mm (1-9/16") for a 25° bevel or 30mm (1-3/16") for a 30° bevel.
The guide’s roller allows you to hone both straight cutting edges or by slightly rocking the guide, you can put a cambered edge on a plane iron.
